When did I get to be a grown up?

As I mentioned in the previous post, a bunch of us girls went out on the town last night. I haven't been to a bar in Boston in years (maybe since my bachelorette party)and I certainly haven't stayed out until 12:30 lately.

I had a great time - had lots of laughs and enjoyed my friends' company. But throughout the night, I felt incredibly old. First of all, we drove my green mini-van. (And no B, I don't think renaming it the "party van" helped. :o) But then we went inside the bar. Just seeing the age of people and how they were dressed made me feel OLD!!!!!!!! I know that we looked like a bunch of "moms" walking through the door. :o) It was especially noticeable when we all started yawning by 9:30!!!!!!

It reminded me of one day this summer. I was at the sprinkler park with the girls. I was watching all of these women come in with their kids. Just thinking in my head, I was noticing they looked like "moms". (In my mind that translates as how my mom looked when I was a kid.) It suddenly occurred to me THAT I WAS ONE OF THOSE MOMS!!!!!!!!

Don't get me wrong. My age generally doesn't bother me. I'm not the type to get upset when my birthday rolls around. I think age is all in your attitude, and mine is fairly young. But I'd just like to know, when did I get to be a grown up?

I renamed it the party van?

just kidding. I wasn't so drunk that I forget that. J.Rowe on the other hand....

As for when we got old? I know that Joe dying aged me by at least 10 years. (although I still manage to act like I'm 16 an awful lot of the time!)

I don't know when you got old.

and no, I'm not gonna argue that you're not old. We certainly weren't as cool as the VW next to us in Kenmore Square! But we are wiser. Yes, that's it. We're wiser :O)

Hello ladies-

I feel very old...I learned a lesson friday night. I can have A drink while out maybe 2 and that is all.

I apologize for anything I said or did... I honestly don't remember much. Please refrain from telling me. It will only make me feel even worst than I do.

Yesterday was a bad day and I'm very upset with myself. I'm happy that you guys all came...it meant a lot to both of us.

Hey, my daughter is dying to be a grown-up, so no one will tell her what to do. :)

Me, I like being a grown-up, but there's nothing like your late 20's. :)

I'm sure I'll be feeling the same way later this week...new BF is going to be in town for the South By Southwest music festival, and we'll be hanging out with all of the 20-something crowd. I keep telling him that I'm not "cool", but he seems to like me anyway!

LOL at the party van!!!

And for this reason, when I found a pair of $100 Seven7 jeans for only $40 that actually fit my hiney, I bought them. So I didn't feel like I was wearing Mom Pants (from Saturday Night Live skit). I just had to feel non-Mom, if even for a second. (http://www.guzer.com/videos/mom_jeans.php ---NOT my site, just linked for the video)

Momma M-
You couldn't be more right about the mom jeans. I'm currently in search of a non-mom pair myself. I can't wait to find them!

Mel-
I'm over it. B told me it wasn't so bad. I just can't believe how going out and everything has changed so much. You pretty much summed it up in your post. I forgot that I had grown up: ) No more vodka for me...wine is a much better beverage. We need to pick a date our next girls night.

Old is a state of mind!

You gals sound like some of the 'hippest' and fun moms I know of! :-)

Like JRowe said, I'm very happy you all made it out. Glad you had a fun time, too... and c'mon, old? Here's old: on Saturday, my back gave out and I could barely walk... let alone run. I felt 82, not 32.

Cheers,
Mark
