Dinner

Why is dinner a battle?
Shouldn't it be something to enjoy?
Isn't food good?

Not to my four year old.
To her --
Food is a battle.
Something to be fought over
Like boundaries or toys.

Sitting at the table
All by herself
30 minutes later.

B: Am I done yet?

M: Is your belly full?

B: Can I have my milk?

M: Not until you finish that part over there.

Sitting at the table
All by herself
30 minutes later.

Sorry... does she eat at other times of the day? Is dinner the battle or eating in general?

Dylan has started the nasty habit of swiping his food off the tray in every which direction. It is throughly frustrating.

I think it's a 3.5 - 4 yr old thing - Ry will only eat dinner if it is a PBJ sandwich. He will sit there until 8:00 (bed time) if he has to. He doesn't care - not that he was the best eater in the first place but it only got worse the older he became. At this rate I hope to get him to 30 pounds by the time he is 5!!!! Oh - and Scott is 30 lbs already and will eat anything as long as it starts out on Ry's plate. So yes - Ry starts out dinner with Scotts food and Scott gets Ry's PBJ and then after I sit down - I have to swich them inorder to have them eat......

I'm glad I'm not alone in the dinner battle.

She does actually eat at other times of the day. Truthfully, I don't care if she eats at dinner or not. I always tell her if her belly is full, she doesn't have to eat, but she can't have any other food until morning. Her tummy might be rumbling if she doesn't have anything...

But more importantly to her, she wants her milk (that's her favorite, and her comfort). I refuse to give her the milk until she's had some actual food. No food - no milk. That's the battle.

Big B has her for dinner tonight. Maybe she'll get her to eat. :o)

Good luck Big B!! I have always found my kids are angels for ANYONE other than me or thier father.

I still struggle a bit with my kids, but I have reduced it to eat all veggies and drink the milk and everything else is negotiable. Funny how weak we get after the third child! You are sooooo not alone, hang in there and choose your battles.
