My kids took a district-wide math assessment. Although a few kids did well, most kids in my class did very poorly. I'm feeling very discouraged. I further embarassed myself by crying in front of colleagues in my room. I'm just feeling helpless. I'm certainly not a perfect teacher, but I know I'm a good teacher. I don't know what to do differently.
We'll start fresh again tomorrow...

Mel-
You are by far one of the best teachers that I know! You've got the right attitude tomorrow is a new day and you go at it again.
As for crying in front of your colleagues, we all need to cry sometimes and it's safe place to do it. When you're feeling helpless it's something that you can do to feel better. There's nothing wrong with a little emotion: )
Those kids are lucky to be in your classroom. The math will come.
Thanks Jenn. I appreciate it. :o)
Mel,
Just a comment from one of the colleagues that was there - I'm sorry you were embarrassed - don't be. To me, the fact that you cried only shows how deeply you care about your kids and their achievements. I think a few tears can be a good thing....clears out the brain!
